Cooler temperatures expected in the Okanagan this week

It should be good weather for gardening this week as temperatures are expected to moderate towards seasonal values by mid-week, bringing a possiblity of showers to the Okanagan.

KELOWNA - Okanagan residents can look forward to a little bit of everything in this week’s weather forecast.

Environment Canada meteorologist Armel Castellan says the above normal temperatures of the last few days should come to an end Tuesday as an upper trough brings some unsettled conditions to the Okanagan.

Castellan says most of the potential for precipitation will remain north of the valley, but there is a possibility of showers in the Okanagan on Wednesday and Thursday.

More seasonal conditions are in store for the last part of the week, with the possibility of another system moving through the region on Sunday.

Castellan says "the pressure is on" the month of June to produce more rain prior to the onset of summer conditions in July and August.

The work week will start off today, June 17, with mainly sunny skies and southwest winds at 20 km/h this afternoon. A high of 31 Celsius is expected today, along with a low of 15 C and a few clouds overnight.

Sunny skies are also expected tomorrow with a high of 27 C and a low of 12 C.

On Wednesday, a mix of sun and clouds brings a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 21 C. A 30 per cent chance of showers continues through Wednesday night with cloudy periods and a low of 8 C expected.

Sunny skies are forecast for Thursday with a high of 20 C and an overnight low of 11 C.

Friday’s weather will be sunny as well, with a high of 27 C and a low of 12 C.

Next weekend should see a pleasant day Saturday with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 26 C. Sunday is expected to be cloudy with a high of 24 C.

The normal maximum and minimum temperature for Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton this time of year are 25 C and 10 C.
