Cool wet weather in Kamloops mid-week should be gone by next weekend

With a mix of weather conditions forecast for this week in Kamloops, the city could see up to 10 mm of rain around mid-week as an upper low moves over the region.

PENTICTON - Kamloops can expect to see another week of “fairly normal weather” for July in the region.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says based on historical averages, the month is trending along a typical July weather pattern so far.

“It may not seem that way, based on the dry spell we’ve had, but so far this month, Kamloops has received about half the normal precipitation for the month of July, and we’re at the midpoint of the month,” Sekhon says.

Sekhon says isolated afternoon showers over the next two days will give way to an upper level cold low that will cool things down considerably Wednesday and Thursday before a high pressure system begins building in time for the weekend.

Kamloops could see up to 10 mm of rain Tuesday through Wednesday.

Today, Environment Canada forecasters are calling for a mix of sun and cloud, becoming cloudy later this morning with a 60 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms late this morning and afternoon.

Winds will become west at 20 km/h near noon, with a high of 25 Celsius and a low of 15 C.

Tonight, a 30 per cent chance of showers continues with a risk of a thunderstorm.

Tuesday should see a mix of sun and cloud once again, with a 30 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon and a high of 28 C.

Periods of rain are expected Tuesday night with an overnight low of 15 C.

Showers are expected to continue into Wednesday with a high of 23 C and a low of 12 C.

Clouds and a 60 per cent chance of showers is expected to continue through Thursday, with a high of 17 C and an overnight low of 10 C.

Cloudy periods and a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight Thursday will give way to a mix of sun and cloud on Friday with a high of 23 C and a low of 13 C.

The weekend looks pretty nice at this point, with a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 27 C expected Saturday, and Sunday mainly sunny with a high of 30 C.

In the east, Ontario is finally going to get a taste of some hot summer weather, as The Weather Network says heat warnings are in effect for parts of that province this week as temperatures and humidities are expected to rise.

The hot humid weather in Ontario is expected to last into next week.

The province could also see some extremely wet conditions on Wednesday when the remnants of Hurricane Barry moves into the area.

Kamloops normally experiences a high of 28 C and a low of 14 C this time of year.
