It was a chilly and wet month all around the Thompson and Okanagan.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says Penticton and Kelowna finished the month of June 1.4 degrees Celsius below average.

Vernon was 0.6 degrees below average and Kamloops was 1.7 degrees C below average for June.

There was more than enough rain as well. Vernon saw precipitation at 122 per cent of normal, with 72 mm falling compared to an average of 59 mm.

Kamloops was a bit drier, recording 41 mm compared to a monthly average of 37 mm.

Sekhon says precipitation records weren’t available for Penticton and Kelowna for June, but by mid-month, Kelowna had already recorded 49 mm, more than its’ average monthly rainfall amount of 46 mm.

“The numbers tell the story. The rainfall was pretty much the same for the month, except for a few days between June 21 and 26. June is, on average, the wettest month of the year, so to be wetter than average on the wettest month of the year, it’s been quite wet,” Sekhon says.

Sekhon said it appears no records were set for precipitation or temperatures for the month, although record low daily highs were recorded in Vernon, Kelowna and Kamloops on June 13.
