Construction underway on new pier in Summerland

The District of Summerland is building a new pier at Gordon Beggs Rotary Beach.

Construction began on March 7 and 51 piles are set to be installed by the end of the month.

Burton Pile Driving will have workers driving piles between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, but could start working longer hours towards the end of the month to meet the deadline.

There is going to be a significant amount of noise from the pile driving.

After all the piles are driven construction of the deck and railings will begin in April and May.

Building the deck and railings will still be noisy, but not as loud as the pile driving work.

The Rotary Club of Summerland is raising money to build extra features on the new pier like seating, solar powered lights, and a jumping board.
