Conspiracy to commit murder charges laid in Vernon trailer park shooting

Bullet holes in trailer window at the Pleasant Valley Manufactured Home Community.

Two men have been charged for conspiracy to commit murder and it appears to be connected to a shooting at a Vernon trailer park last year.

Mohammad Omar Ali, 26, and Jamal Alexander, 19, were charged early this month for conspiracy to commit the murder of Lorne Free Ryan and Tracy Ryan.

Along with the conspiracy to commit murder charges they were also charged with unlawfully discharging a firearm and other weapons offences for an incident that took place in September 2024.

Precise information about what took place isn’t known, but the dates of the alleged offences match those of a shooting which took place at the Pleasant Valley Manufactured Home Community. Police at the time said it was a targeted shooting that happened in the early hours of the morning.

Following the shooting, multiple bullet holes could be seen in the window of a home at the normally sleepy trailer park.

At the time, a neighbour said the lady who lived there was in her late 50s and had her son staying from Alberta.

The apparent target, Ryan, who also goes by Ryan-Mckinnon, has previously been convicted for assault causing bodily harm and drunk driving causing bodily harm and multiple breaches following incidents in Vernon in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

According to Yukon RCMP, Ryan was arrested in July and along with two others faces 10 charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, pointing a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Omar Ali has a lengthy criminal record and has a manslaughter charges along with more than 20 other outstanding charges currently ticking through the Alberta court system.

The 26-year-old was one of four men allegedly involved in the death of a 20-year-old man in his Edmonton home in 2020.

Along with the manslaughter charge, Omar Ali was also charged with extortion using a firearm, attempted kidnapping, unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and more.

He also faces weapons charges from last December in Edmonton.

Jamal does not appear to have a criminal record in BC. He would have been 18 years old at the time of the alleged offences.

Omar Ali is currently in custody and scheduled for a bail hearing in October. Jamal is not in custody.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
