Five train cars derailed near the Kamloops airport this past weekend, but CN Rail can't yet say why.

When they left the track, the cars were in an upright position and there were no fires, leaks or injuries, according to CN Rail spokesperson, Mathieu Gaudreault.

A rail crossing at Tranquille Road was also blocked, Gaudreault said in an emailed statement.

The derailment is still being investigated by CN Rail, and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada won't be involved.

The the safety board is aware of the April 2 derailment, where no injuries or release of dangerous goods were reported.

It will limit its involvement to "data gathering," but won't be investigating, according to a safety board spokesperson.
