Clocks spring ahead this weekend — as usual

The annual return to daylight savings time is this weekend for B.C. residents.

On Sunday March 8, B.C. residents will be turning their clocks ahead by one hour as daylight time will come into effect.

In a survey conducted by the B.C. government last summer, 93 per cent of respondents preferred a change to year-round observance of daylight savings time. Following the survey, the B.C. government introduced legislation proposing a permanent switch to daylight time, along with California, Oregon and Washington state.

However, given that it is a U.S. election year and Congress has other priorities, change south of the border does not appear imminent.

Change has been in discussion for awhile, with many B.C. residents crying for a permanent switch to daylight time.

Supporters of daylight time can remain hopeful for future changes, however, this Sunday time must spring forward as usual.
