KELOWNA - A climate action group hopes to draw awareness to the impact animal agriculture has on the environment through a series of demonstrations coinciding with Kelowna's RibFest.
Over the course of Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 25, Kelowna Climate Save is conducting six public outreach actions across Kelowna. The group has concerns with the impact that animal agriculture has on the planet, and would like to see an end to Kelowna RibFest.
"These actions are to draw public awareness to the association of animal agriculture to the current climate emergency that we all face, an emergency heightened this week by the Amazon forest fires. Citizens from across B.C. will be attending," Kelowna Climate Save said in a press release.
The first action, dubbed The Life of a Sow, runs from noon to 2 p.m. at the entrance to Kelowna City Park and is followed by Climate Change Chalktivism: Art - A Way to Your Heart from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A mass climate action operating under the name Our House is on Fire starts at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Kelowna. The location of the mass climate action has yet to be announced. Anonymous for the Voiceless, Cube of Truth ends Saturday's actions and is set for 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at the entrance to Kelowna City Park.
Sunday will see a repeat of The Life of a Sow and Climate Change Chalktivism.
“We need diet change to reduce climate change," said the Kelowna Climate Save Group.
The Interior Savings Sunrise Rotary RibFest is Aug. 23 to 25. Five rib teams descend upon Kelowna's City Park with their selection of barbecued meats for the weekend event.
