Clark says B.C. budget in the black, resource sector powers economy

VICTORIA - Premier Christy Clark says her government will table a balanced budget next month.

She says the balanced budget will show the government is controlling spending while embracing a growing resource sector that has the power to turn British Columbia into the fastest growing and cleanest economy in Canada.

Clark made the remarks during a keynote speech today at a natural resources forum in Prince George.

She says B.C.'s resource sector — propelled by growth in mining, forestry and natural gas development — has bounced back after the global meltdown six years ago.

Clark says her Liberals were re-elected with a mandate to grasp resource opportunities that could open huge trade opportunities in Asian markets while remaining environmental leaders.

She says her vision for economic growth includes the construction of the proposed Site C hydroelectric dam and the inclusion of First Nations in that resource growth.
