City toilets, fountains and landfills open Easter weekend

KELOWNA - You can get in a workout and take a load to the landfill this holiday long weekend, but don't expect to be able to pay your back taxes or make a development variance application.

Kelowna City Hall will be closed both Good Friday, April 3, and Easter Monday, April 6, for the Easter long weekend.

If you’re cleaning up the garden this weekend and have some trash to toss, the Glenmore Landfill will operate under regular business hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. OgoGrow and GlenGrow can still be picked up at the landfill or the Commonage Road compost facility until 4 p.m.

If it’s a workout you’re looking for or simply some family time with the kids, Parkinson Recreation Centre is operating under shortened hours over the weekend, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Easter Monday.

Washroom facilities in local parks open Wednesday, April 1, except for Hot Sands Beach in City Park. Facilities there are closed for renovation until the end of May, although the city has provided portable toilets for the interim. Washrooms in Stuart Park and Gerstmar Park are open all year.

Drinking fountains and water services at off-leash dog parks are also running.

Sports fields throughout the city remain closed as they are still too wet. The turf also needs to grow out some more before allowing regular use.
