PENTICTON - The City of Penticton is taking steps to increase the number of parking spaces available at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
Four properties along Eckhardt Avenue are expected to provide an additional 47 parking stalls following their acquisition by the city at a cost of just over $1.5 million.
The funds will come from the city’s Land Acquisition Reserve, which requires a budget amendment that was approved by Penticton City Council this afternoon, April 3.
A parking strategy set to get underway soon will help determine what ultimately will be best use for the properties.
Forty additional parking spaces will also be made available by the departure of the temporary visitor centre trailers that occupied a portion of the events centre parking lot.
