PENTICTON - The City of Penticton has had some interest expressed in building a hotel on the South Okanagan Events Centre property.
Penticton Mayor Andrew Jakubeit says the city received two written responses to an Expression of Interest soliciting proposals for a hotel to be built on the Events Centre property prior to deadline.
“I’m hoping to have a report, or a summarization to report at council on Tuesday,” he says.
Jakubeit says the submissions are in the process of being evaluated by staff and he hopes by to be able to discuss what was offered, or staff’s initial evaluation at the next council meeting.
Council passed a zoning amendment to the property in May to allow for tourist accommodation use in the hopes of having one less hurdle for a prospective developer to overcome.
The city issued an Expression of Interest shortly after to see if there was interest from the private sector to build a hotel on the site.
