KAMLOOPS - The City of Kamloops is trying to get more feedback on the downtown redevelopment plan in a way residents can actually see things for themselves.

The Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association will be partnering with the city on a Pedestrian Plaza trial on 4 Avenue. The plaza will feature seating areas, planters, street trees and street games.

The pilot project will run from July 26 to Aug. 12, according to a media release issued by the city.

“The intent is to pilot the plaza concept with the community, gather feedback and use this information to develop a more permanent plaza space ideally in the next five years,” the city says.

City officials say they are also looking to provide entertainment during this period and several openings are available for musicians or performers looking to showcase their talent during the pilot project.

The pilot project will reroute traffic in the area. There will be no vehicle traffic from Wednesday, July 25 to Monday, August 13 from the alley between Victoria Street and Lansdowne Street to the alley between Victoria Street and Seymour Street.

However, Victoria Street will remain open for vehicles travelling east to west. There will also be a brief survey period after the pilot project finishes for residents to submit feedback on the plaza on the city's Let's Talk - Kamloops website.

For those looking to show their talent during the pedestrian plaza, they can contact the city's community and wellness event coordinator at devans@kamloops.ca or 250-828-3828.

Certain transit routes will be modified during this project, individuals are encouraged to visit B.C. Transit's website for more information on rerouting.
