City of Kamloops launches Waste Wise Kamloops app

Kamloops, BC – The City of Kamloops has launched the Waste Wise Kamloops app to help residents remember their collection day and help divert materials from city landfills.

The free app includes a Collection Calendar tool where residents can enter their address into the app to find their collection schedule. Residents can then sign up to receive collection day reminders via email, phone call, or text message. In-app notifications are also available in the mobile app.

“The most common questions we receive at the Public Works and Utilities Department are regarding garbage and recycling collection services,” says Glen Farrow, City of Kamloops’ Streets and Environment Services Manager. “As our collection days shift after stat holidays, it can be easy to lose track.”

The app also allows residents to download a PDF of their collection calendar or embed it into Outlook, iCal, or Google Calendars.

“Another great feature of the new app is the Waste Wizard,” says Farrow. “If you’re not sure how to dispose of an item, you can do a quick search and the app will let you know whether it is included in curbside collection or if it should go elsewhere.”

The free app is available for download on Apple and Android devices and can also be accessed on the City’s website at kamloops.ca/garbage.
