A residential and commercial development project on Kamloops' North Shore will be going forward after city council approved a rezoning application in a unanimous vote at a public hearing.

The Pulse on 8th project includes two, six-story buildings adding almost 200 much needed rental units to the city’s housing inventory.

The project by Total Concept Developments Ltd. will be a mix of commercial and residential spaces, according to a Total Concept Developments media release issued, Feb. 28.

One building will have 126 rental market suites from studios to two-bedroom units with commercial space on the ground floor. The second building will have 65 affordable rentals suites for seniors from studios to one-bedroom units. The development includes 240 parking stalls.

Project spokesperson Sheila Minten said the development will maximize the use of an under-utilized area and address the critical need for rental market housing and commercial space in the city.

The rezoning application covers the parcel of land at 1006, 1014 and 1024 8 Street. The rezoning allows the removal of a restricted covenant on the property, permitting the two-building development.

“We will now move forward with our next steps which will be to confirm timelines and details to apply for a building permit," Minten said in the release.

Total Concept anticipates the project will be completed in three years.
