City announces opening date for Westsyde Pool

The newly renovated Westsyde Pool offers patrons a more open and bright place to take a dip.

KAMLOOPS - After renovations that were delayed for about six months by issues with building materials the Westsyde Pool will reopen on Friday, Sept. 8.

The City is offering a free swim from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on opening day which includes access to the hot tub and fitness centre, according to a media releae.

The public swim schedule has also been released and is available at the City's website.

The newly renovated pool features a more open natatorium with several windows which provide far more light than the previously dark and cramped pool, the City says. While the slide has been removed, a six metre climbing wall will soon be installed along with a zip-line swing.

The pool has been out of commission since February of 2015 when the roof was found to be leaking.

There was discussion around potentially demolishing the building, but the Westsyde community called for repairs instead.

Construction on the $3 million project began in July of 2016.
