There will be at least one new face on Westbank First Nation council following its September election.
Chief Roxanne Lindley defeated long-time chief Robert Louie in 2016 to become Westbank’s first female chief. Louie had been chief from 1986 to 1996 and again from 2002 to 2016 when Lindley defeated him. Louie is not running for chief or council.
After only one term in office, Lindley is being challenged by veteran councillor Chris Derrickson who was first elected to council in 2012.
There are 11 people running for four council positions, including the three other incumbents: Brian Eli, Fernanda Alexander and Tom Konek. With Derrickson running for chief, that means there is one vacant seat on council so, at least, one new councillor will be elected.
Information on the Lindley, Derrickson and the incumbent councillors can be found on the councillor biography page of the Westank First Nation website here.
The other candidates running for a spot on council are Andrea Sandra Alexander, Jordan Richardson Coble, Miguel Ramon Ladron De Guevara, Corinne Yvonne Derickson, Lorrie Ann Hogaboam, Bonnie Marie McEwan, Chad Monroe Paul and Bobbi Louise Tronson.
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 19 at 1920 Quail Lane.
An all-candidates forum for members was held last night, Aug. 27. It was recorded and will be available for members only on the Westbank First Nation website here.
