A Kootenay-based traditional Chinese medicine doctor has been temporarily barred from treating women following a complaint from a patient.
According to Dec. 9 College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC notice, Günter Joachim Beisswenger may not treat female patients while an investigation is underway.
The College said it received a complaint from a patient that Beisswenger failed a drape them and massaged a potentially sexualized area of their body without consent.
"(Beisswenger) made inappropriate comments to the patient, and conducted himself in a manner that demonstrated a lack of professional judgment and respect for boundaries," the notice read.
According to the College, Beisswenger is a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and acupuncturist who first became registered in 2001.
The College said it has put in an interim order that he not to treat females while it is investigating.
Beisswenger must also post a statement that he is prohibited from treating female patients on any online booking pages and display a notice in his treatment room.
He must also give the regulator the contact information for everyone he has treated each week.
"(He) will be subject to random on-site audits of his practice by a College-appointed inspector, with the frequency and timing of the random on-site audits to be at the sole discretion of the College," the notice read.
The regulator said it considered the allegations serious and found that the alleged conduct was likely to recur.
"Therefore, the (regulator) determined that the public must be protected by an interim order during the investigation, pending any disciplinary hearing," the notice read.
No other information was given in the notice and none of the allegations have been proven.
