One of two children police said were killed in a crash near Kamloops on Sunday is in fact in hospital in Vancouver, police now say.

A single vehicle crash Sunday, Feb. 23, on Highway 5A near Stump Lake south of Kamloops claimed the lives of a 47-year-old man and an eight-year-old child from southern Alberta.

Kamloops RCMP originally said in a media release a five-year-old child in the vehicle also died, but corrected the information in a release today to say he is "in grave condition" in a hospital in Vancouver.

Police had said the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, went over a concrete barrier and down a steep embankment.

“Out of respect for privacy of the family, no further information regarding the child's private medical status will be shared publicly,” Kamloops RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release.
