Child abducted in Kamloops by biological parents found safe and sound

November 03, 2020 - 1:20 PM

A child abducted from Kamloops yesterday has been found safe.

Kamloops RCMP received a report the child had been abducted from a residence Nov. 2 around 2 p.m., according to an RCMP release.

An investigation revealed that the child's biological parents had forced their way into a home, assaulted a worker, and taken the child in a vehicle.

Anticipating that the parents would head south on the Coquihalla Highway, RCMP members sent out the information to all surrounding detachments.

Officers located the parents in their vehicle near Merritt, however, the child was not with them.

Further investigation revealed that the child was with their grandfather, who was also travelling south on the Coquihalla Highway in a separate vehicle.

Police called the grandfather, who agreed to bring the child to the Hope RCMP Detachment. The child was returned in good spirits a short time later.

“We are very happy that we were able to bring this to a peaceful conclusion and that the child is safe” Sgt Darren Michels said in a release.

“We had initiated the process to issue an Amber Alert however the situation quickly unfolded and the child was located safe.”

The investigation into this incident is still underway. The biological father, 38, and mother, 37, are facing charges in Kamloops Court.
