KAMLOOPS - A Valleyview elementary school has a good shot at getting $100,000 toward revitalizing its playground.

Marion Schilling Elementary School is one of 10 finalists in the BCAA Play Here contest, which will award three play areas with the money to rejuvenate their space.

Right now, the school is in first place with 2,012 votes, and it states on the Play Here website that many families use the playground, which is the only one in the area.

"Our current playground is old and unsafe for families, and needs to be replaced with new equipment in order to continue to host the families from our local community and beyond," the website states.

But Chase also has a play space in the running.

The Chase Skate Park is hoping to get a renovation to amp up its solo skate ramp into a real skate park. The space was previously an outdoor skating rink.

"To improve this space, we are proposing taking out the old, cracked asphalt and constructing a skate park in it's place," the Play Here website states. "This project has been in the works for years, and it's support has been so broadly spread and wide ranging across the community that actually seeing it come into reality would bring such a huge sense of accomplishment to the whole Village."
