From chainsaw mischief to a burglar’s request, Salmon Arm RCMP dealt with some unusual suspects in June.
Police received a report about a man who appeared to be cutting a fence with a chainsaw near the Trans-Canada Highway and 5 Street around 10 p.m. on June 27, according to a press release from police.
When officers arrived they found a man with a chainsaw who is known to police. The man claimed he was being chased by a group of people wearing masks, and he told officers he cut a tree down to block his pursuers.
The fallen tree was found on the highway, so police cleared it and arrested the man for mischief.
Police released the man with a future court date, but seized his chainsaw.
A few days later, RCMP received a call. about a break and enter in an apartment building on 5 Avenue around 11 p.m. on June 29.

The complainant said there was a woman trying to get through someone’s front door when a noise came from inside the locked apartment.
When the complainant approached the apartment they heard a man asking to be let out. The burglar entered through a broken window, but police did not say why he needed to ask to be let out.
Officers arrived on the scene, but the suspect was gone.
Police reviewed some video surveillance and were able to track the suspect down. The man was arrested and released with a future court date.
