A Central Okanagan regional park has been closed after a cougar was reported in the park.
According to a Regional District of Central Okanagan media release, the public is asked to stay out of Goats Peak Regional Park, which is located off Highway 97 south in West Kelowna.
"Conservation officers investigated and identified increased cougar activity in the area. As a precaution, the park will remain closed," the release says.
The media release doesn't say whether the cougar or cougars were aggressive and gives no information about why it would be unusual for a cougar to be in the 63-acre park.
However, the regional district says the park will re-open when conservation officers determine it is safe for people to visit.
The Conservation Officer Service reminds residents to report wildlife showing aggressive or threatening behaviour to the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) hotline line at 1-877-952-7277.
