Central Okanagan getting 16 new paramedics, one new ambulance

B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics attend a scene at Kelowna's Orchard Park Mall, May 31, 2016.

CENTRAL OKANAGAN - B.C. Emergency Health Services says it will hire 22 new paramedics and provide an additional ambulance for Kelowna, West Kelowna and Lake Country.

Kelowna will see 16 new full-time paramedics, West Kelowna will see four and Lake Country will see two in additional to existing staff, health services communications officer Fatima Siddiqui said in a press release.

The new paramedic positions will be awarded based on the hiring standards in the CUPE 873 collective agreement with health services.

Kelowna and the surrounding communities were identified as priorities in a recent service review.

There is no mention in the release about when the hiring is supposed to be complete.
