Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre is looking for residents’ feedback

Central Okanagan residents have more time to give their input on emergency preparedness.

The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre has been engaging with the public to discuss how prepared the community is for an emergency.

The centre has decided to extend the public engagement period until the end of May, according to a press release from the centre.

“Due to the community's high interest in emergency preparedness, the Community Readiness engagement period will be extended,” said Deputy Fire Chief Sandra Follack from the Regional Emergency Program. “This will allow residents who have not yet provided their input to have the opportunity to do so before May 31.”

The Regional District of Central Okanagan has an online questionnaire about individual emergency preparedness, those who fill out the form get a chance to win a $170 emergency kit. Residents can also share ideas for emergency preparedness and stories about neighbours helping neighbours.

The feedback from residents will help public communications with Westbank First Nation, Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Lake Country and the RDCO Electoral Areas before, during, and after an emergency.

Emergency preparedness week has ended but Central Okanagan residents can learn more about being prepared with the “Ask an Expert” video series all year long.

There is also an online emergency planner to help people create a home emergency plan.
