A lynx who became a local feline celebrity last year has returned to MacArthur Island Park for more snacks.

The photogenic animal was a subject of interest for residents and local photographers during its stay at the park last year, where it was seen killing and eating ducks and geese.

Doug Giles is a wildlife photographer in Kamloops with decades of experience photographing, studying and admiring a vast array of wild animal species. He photographed the lynx last year and went back for a few more photos yesterday, Jan. 25.

“There was a gathering of people around the bush it sits in taking pictures with their cell phones,” Giles said. “I have the equipment to take photos from further away. I’m really hoping residents will be respectful and avoid crowding it.”

Giles said the lynx is a healthy female and confirmed it is the same one as last year.

Last year, conservation officials warned park-goers to give the cat plenty of space.

Officials decided to leave the lynx alone because of its low risk to the public and relocating it would be too stressful for the wildcat.
