FBI raids drugs division at Puerto Rico police department

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The FBI has raided the narcotics division of a local police department in Puerto Rico amid corruption allegations.

Agents seized documents and electronic equipment Wednesday at the department in the north-coast town of Vega Baja.

FBI spokesman Carlos Osorio said the raid is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged misappropriation of drugs and civil rights violations.

Puerto Rico's police chief said she would issue a statement later.

The seizure comes as Puerto Rico's police department undergoes a 10-year federally mandated reform after a 2011 report accused officers of illegal killings, corruption and rights abuses.
