A fire in the basement of a West Kelowna home early this morning, July 21, forced residents to flee but they all got out safely.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue was called at 12:30 a.m. to the fire in the 1500 block of Klein Road.
“On arrival, crews found advanced fire conditions located in the basement on the back side of the residence,” deputy fire chief Chad Gartrell wrote in a news release.
“Crews did a great job moving large diameter hand lines in position to get an initial knock on the fire prior to making entry to extinguish the fire and complete a primary search for occupants.”
The residents were assisted by Emergency Social Services.
Crews will return to the scene today to try to determine the cause of the fire but it’s not considered suspicious, Gartrell said.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue sent four fire engines and one command unit for a total of 14 members to the fire.
