Case of COVID-19 reported at Kamloops high school

A case of COVID-19 has been identified at a Kamloops high school.

Interior Health has reported a case of COVID-19 at NorKam Secondary School, with a potential for exposure Nov. 6.

A letter sent out to NorKam parents has been circulating on social media, which states the school is assisting Interior Health in conducting contact tracing to determine whether there are any additional cases.

"While we have had cases in schools, with the exception of the one school outbreak in Kelowna that was declared over two weeks ago, transmission is not happening within the schools themselves thanks to the controlled environments and precautions are in place," an Interior Health spokesperson said in an email to iNFOnews.ca.

"When a case is identified, we are working closely with schools to minimize any further spread through contact tracing and appropriate isolation and monitoring."

Interior Health does not disclose specific details about cases of COVID-19 for privacy reasons, so it is unknown whether it is a student or staff member who tested positive.
