Man, 91, dies after being left unchecked in B.C. care home for several days

SUMMERLAND, B.C. - A 91-year-old man has died just weeks after he was left alone for several days in his room in an assisted living facility in Summerland, B.C.

Alfredo Bonaldi did not appear for meals in the dining room of the Summerland Seniors Village for about four days in November, but none of the staff checked on him.

When a family member entered the room, Bonaldi was found unable to move in his bed and suffering from several ailments.

He was taken to hospital, but the RCMP have now confirmed that he died over the weekend.

The Interior Health Authority and the Ministry of Health launched an investigation of the care facility after the discovery of Bonaldi in his room.

The authority has also appointed a clinical consultant at Summerland Village to work with management and staff to improve care. (CKOR)
