A suspected car thief was nabbed in Salmon Arm after hopping on a moving train in an escape attempt.

The suspect found himself on police radar after a stolen red Jeep was reported abandoned on 70th Avenue NE in Salmon Arm around 12:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, according to an RCMP media release.

Police responded and determined the Jeep had been stolen that morning in Kelowna. Inside was an e-bike, which was also stolen.

“A good description of the suspect matched a subsequent complaint of a male with the same description hopping on a passing train,” the release says.

Crew members of Canadian Pacific told the RCMP where the train stopped or slowed down, and officers searched those points.

RCMP say the suspect who fits “a distinctive description” was found and arrested at a local business in the west end of town.
