Thanks to all the rain over the past weekend the campfire ban in the Kamloops Fire Centre will be lifted on Wednesday.

The rain, along with cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity, has prompted the BC Wildfire Service to lift the campfire ban as of noon, August. 28, according to a media release.

The use of torches, like tiki torches, and chimineas are also now allowed.

Open fires remain prohibited until noon on Oct. 11. For a complete list of open fire categories go here.

The wildfire service recommends the public check with local governments to see what other campfire restrictions might be in effect.

The Kamloops Fire Centre covers an area from Blue River in the north to the U.S. boarder in the south, and from Bridge River in the west to the Monashee Mountains in the east. It includes the communities of Kamloops, Merritt, Salmon Arm, Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton.
