VERNON, B.C. - Two dozen north Okanagan students had a bumpy ride on the way to Vernon Christian School Thursday morning, but all are expected to be okay.

Vernon RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says a school bus carrying the youngsters skidded into a ditch shortly before 8:30 a.m.

A-1 bus line owner Trevor Cairns says the bus landed on its side after sliding through what he describes as a slippery intersection.

All the children were taken to hospital in Vernon for a precautionary check up, along with a woman complaining of head and neck pain.

The crash occurred directly in front of a fire truck responding to a Vernon-area house fire and Cairns says the bus driver felt the only option was to hit the ditch.

No one was hurt in the nearby blaze, although fire officials say one section of a very old home was badly damaged. (CKIZ, CHNL)
