A woman from Burnaby holds a pretty incredible record. She is B.C.'s largest lottery prize winner.

Christine Lauzon purchased the winning Lotto Max ticket on a whim, along with a pack of peanuts, at Shoppers Drug Mart on Hastings Street in Burnaby, according to a B.C. Lottery Corporation media release. Turns out, that ticket on the Sept. 28 draw was worth $70 million.

“I just thought, ‘Why not buy a ticket?’” Lauzon said in the release. “I have definitely dreamed about it but I never thought it would actually happen. You never think it’s going to happen.”

She selected the winning numbers randomly.

When Lauzon realized she won she broke the big news to her roommate and then her dad.

“They were both so surprised and excited,” she said. “My dad…couldn’t keep a straight face.”

The win feels surreal, she said.

Lauzon will be making an appointment with her financial advisor, and then share some of her prize as gifts for her immediate family.

Many causes are close to her heart, and said she'll take some time before deciding how to best make an impact.

“I feel nervous and excited all in one,” she said. “I can’t fully wrap my head around it all right now. I am so excited for what is to come.”

The odds of hitting the Lotto Max jackpot are 1 in 33,294,800.
