KELOWNA - The confrontation between RCMP and a knife-wielding man has ended on the waterfront in downtown Kelowna this afternoon.

“After a two-hour standoff, police officers required the use of less-lethal rounds to subdue the man and take him into custody,” Cpl. Meghan Foster said in a news release. “He will receive medical treatment, if required, and investigators will continue working to determine what led up to this event.”

Police were called at about 1:10 p.m. today, Oct. 4, with reports of a man waving a hunting knife in the 200 block of Bernard Avenue and the standoff came to an end at around 3 p.m.

When officers arrived the man was out on a dock.

RCMP had asked the public to stay away as officers tried to diffuse the situation

No criminal charges have been laid as of yet and the man’s name will not be released.
