Bombardier workers approve five-year contract with raises every year

MONTREAL - About 1,800 unionized workers at Bombardier have voted to approve a new contract proposal.

Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers have voted by more than 73 per cent to accept management's offer.

The deal gives workers an average increase of 6.5 per cent in the first year and three-per-cent raises in the second and third years.

They will get at least 1.5 per cent for the rest of the contract.

The union says the contract also guarantees no work with be outsourced during the life of the agreement.

"Despite the fact that the offer was accepted, Bombardier will have work to do over the next five years to regain the trust of workers and rebuild a sense of belonging," said union spokesman Eric Rancourt.

In a news release, the company says it's pleased with the outcome of the vote.
