PENTICTON - For the second time this week, residents of a townhouse complex in Penticton have been evacuated from their homes, this time following the discovery of explosive materials this morning.
Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police discovered a package containing explosive items in the building in the 900 block of Creston Avenue this morning, April 28, resulting in the evacuation of the complex.
The same residents were asked to leave by RCMP investigating a homicide on Wednesday when man was shot and killed at the complex.
Wrigglesworth says the RCMP explosives disposal unit has been notified and the officer are making their way to the scene from Vancouver.
He says there was no threat of a bomb, but the explosive materials could become unstable if not stored properly.
Dwayne Green, a tenant in the building, stood across the street watching this afternoon as police put up crime scene around the property and block access to the parking lot.
Green says the power went out at about 10 a.m. and then at noon they were told to evacuate because an explosive device had been found in the electrical room.
“I’ve never lived anywhere that has as much action as this place,” he says.
