OLIVER - A mechanical problem has prompted the Interior Health Authority and the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen to issue a boil water notice for anyone using the Willowbrook water system near Oliver.

Acting public works manager Liisa Bloomfield says crews are working to fix the emergency situation and aren't yet certain what's wrong with the pump. She estimates the pump should be up and running some time next week.

About 80 customers are affected by the boil water notice, and bottled water is not being made available.

A regional district media release says residents should use a safe source of water or boil all water used for drinking, oral hygiene and all cooking and food preparation purposes. Water should be boiled for at least one minute. All business owners, operators, specifically bed and breakfasts, and public facilities operators must inform customers of the notice, the district advises.

The public works department can be reached at 250-490-4135.
