RCMP have confirmed the body recovered from Osoyoos Lake earlier this week is that of a missing Mexican man.

Carlos Tomas Aranda Burgoin, 30, went missing from Osoyoos on July 7, when he had a brief conversation with an RCMP officer before he was found dead earlier this week. His body was recovered from Osoyoos Lake on Aug. 22.

Local police and the BC Coroners Service are working together to figure out the circumstances of Burgoin’s death, according to an RCMP media release.

“The Osoyoos RCMP offer their sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Aranda Burgoin,” the release says.

His father had travelled from Mexico City to search for his son. A yellow notice was issued through Interpol in relation to his disappearance.

The Government of Mexico was supporting the local search efforts.
