REVELSTOKE - An investigation has been launched after Revelstoke RCMP uncovered a body in a submerged vehicle in Griffin Lake.

Police were called to the lake Aug. 21 at about 9:30 a.m. for a report of a submerged vehicle approximately 10 feet from the shoreline. Police said the vehicle appeared to have been underwater for some time.

A local tow company and RCMP, along with an underwater recovery team, recovered an older model Honda Accord Aug. 24. The body of an adult woman was found inside.

"At this time, investigators are working closely with the B.C. Coroners Service to confirm the woman’s identity," Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said in a media release. "Early indicators are that her death does not involve criminality."

No further information is available from either the RCMP or the B.C. Coroners Service.
