Body found in Kelowna home destroyed by fire

A body has been found in what was left of a Kelowna home following fire earlier this week.

RCMP were alerted to the fully engaged house fire at in the 100 block of Timberline Road in Kelowna just before 6 a.m., Oct. 11, where fire crews were fighting the blaze, according to an RCMP media release.

Emergency responders weren't unable to enter the building because there was too much structural damage and a risk the roof would collapse, so a search was not immediately conducted, RCMP said.

When fire crews were able to investigate the site today, Oct. 13, they located the remains of a deceased person.

“Kelowna RCMP is working in partnership with the BC Coroners Service to investigate and determine the identity of the deceased,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Solana Paré said in the release. “The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing at this time.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 or remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net.
