DNA results have connected a missing Okanagan man to a body found in his camper.

Taren (Terry) Lacey was last heard from on June 24, according to a Vernon RCMP media release. He had no fixed address.

In August, a body was found in the missing 60-year-old's truck and camper in the Copper Mountain area but family members were waiting on DNA results to confirm if it belonged to Lacey.

"After much waiting and surely many sleepless nights, the family has been notified of the DNA results for the deceased person found in Terry's camper," wrote Deren Nickerson, in a missing person's Facebook group set up for Lacey, Oct. 22.

"The DNA was matched with that of Terry's daughter, Taryn, and so it is now certain that Terry Lacey has been officially found and will finally be able go home with his children and grandchildren.

"A difficult search led into a nightmarishly long wait to discover answers, and now a family begins to mourn all over again... But at least now Terry can be at rest. Thank you to everybody who gave the gift of your time, your prayers, and your positive energy. It helped the family immeasurably through this difficult period."

Lacey initially told his family he was travelling to the Lower Mainland and had plans to camp at various places in the B.C. Interior along the way.

A couple of days later, the family lost all phone and media contact with him.
