Police are awaiting an autopsy report to confirm the identity of a body found in a missing 60-year-old Okanagan man's truck and camper yesterday.

Taren (Terry) Lacey was last heard from on June 24, according to a Vernon RCMP media release. He had no fixed address.

“They can’t confirm it is him until the autopsy results come in,” Sherry Lacey said. “I am heartbroken. He is my ex-husband and friend of 38 years. His twin in Germany is a mess.”

Terry initially told his family he was travelling to the Lower Mainland and had plans to camp at various places in the B.C. Interior along the way.

A couple of days later, the family lost all phone and media contact with him.

“The last time I made contact with him was through a text on June 26 when he was camping and fishing near Copper Mountain,” Sherry said.

Terry’s twin and sister-in-law in Germany have been working around the clock with her to share Terry’s story and follow up on leads.

“I am deeply grateful to his sister-in-law in Germany who sounded the alarm and pushed to get a missing person’s file started,” she said. “We would never have known he was gone, none of his kids knew he was missing.”

Today, Aug. 25, she put a post on Facebook to inform every one of the tragic discovery.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I am informing you that Terry Lacey’s truck and camper were found in the Copper Mountain area, following an amazing tip from someone in Princeton,” she said in the post.

“Sadly they also found a deceased person. We are waiting with painful hearts for police to verify the remains are indeed Terry.”

Vernon RCMP were not immediately available for comment.
