KAMLOOPS - The bodies of two Surrey men were discovered near Ashcroft on Saturday, nearly a month after they went missing.

Ryan Provencher and Richard Scurr were last seen in Metro Vancouver on July 20 and had been planning a trip to Spences Bridge, according to an RCMP media release. The jeep they were travelling in was found abandoned near Logan Lake, which is about 300 kilometres from Surrey.

On August 17, Lytton RCMP officers were called to the scene after the two bodies were discovered in a rural area north of Spences Bridge. No details on the suspected cause of death have been released yet although RCMP suspect criminal activity may be a factor.

RCMP Air Services removed the bodies from the location, and an investigation is underway by the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Section, Police Dog Service, and RCMP from Lytton and Ashcroft. B.C. Coroners Service is also investigating the deaths and has not released any additional information yet.

"We have been working closely with the B.C. Coroners Service to confirm the identities of the deceased as Ryan Provencher and Richard Scurr, who were reported missing to the Surrey RCMP in mid-July of this year. The RCMP is confirming their identities in an effort to advance our investigation into their deaths," Sgt. Steve Rigby of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit said in the release.

Anyone with information about the men is asked to contact Southeast District Major Crime Unit at 1-877-987-8477 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
