Police say a bloody Ikea rug turned into the Barriere RCMP detachment is associated with a murder investigation in Kamloops.

They've identified the victim, but haven't said much else.

Peter Daniel Casimir was the victim of a targeted killing and there's no risk to the public, Staff Sgt. Jason Smart of B.C. RCMP southeast district major crimes unit said in a news release.

It's not clear when the bloody blue rug was "turned in" to the detachment nor when the investigation began. Police didn't say when they collected the rug or if Casimir's body was found.

The news release said police are looking for people who had "dealings with" Casimir this year, especially last month.

He was also known to use the alias Jake Maserski.

The April 3 news release is the first announcement of Casimir's murder, which includes few details about when and where his body was found, or if his body was found at all.

"These are all details that I cannot share publicly at this time," RCMP Staff Sgt. Kris Clark said.
