KAMLOOPS – The Kamloops Blazers have signed their first selection in the 2015 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, Jackson Shepard, to a standard WHL contract. Shepard was chosen 23rd overall by the Blazers.

Shepard is listed at 5’8” and 155 lbs. He suited up this past season with the North Shore Winter Club Bantam AAA team recording 32 goals, 79 assists and 111 points in 61 games. The West Vancouver native helped his team win the Canadian Western Bantam Championships in Winnipeg this past April.

“Jackson shows a lot of key qualities that we look for in a player. He is skilled, competitive, quick and relentless on the puck,” General Manager Craig Bonner said.

“He is a heart and soul player that plays hard every shift,” Bonner continued. “We look forward to watching his development this season and are excited to see him in a Blazers jersey.”

Shepard is expected to play in the B.C. Major Midget League with the Vancouver Northwest Giants for the 2015-16 season.

The Blazers have their top two picks from the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft signed. Defenseman Devan Harrison, who was selected 26th overall, signed with the Blazers back on May 13.
