Big White, Kelowna, Lake Country struggling with powerlines

KELOWNA – Big White Ski Resort is without power Wednesday morning after 22 cm of snow fell overnight.

Senior vice president Michael J. Ballingall says Fortis is onsite and that power should soon be restored to the roughly 1,200 residents affected.

“But we’re opening on Saturday so that’s the good news,” he says.

B.C. Hydro also says another 1,600 customers are without power in the Kelowna and Lake Country area.

Schools in Oyama and Winfield are back in session following a delay this morning due to downed power lines. Peachland schools are the only ones in School District 23 without power. Peachland is not expected to have power in time for classes to resume so parents will be contacted and students sent home. Parents who are able can pick their children up at their convenience. Children who do not have an alternate arrangement for pick-up will be held at the school. All buses in the district are expected to run on time and as usual at the end of the school day. Check the School District 23 website for updates.
