Below normal temperatures continue this week in Kamloops, Okanagan

Cool temperatures expected in the Okanagan and Kamloops this week.

If you think it’s a bit cool for May, you’re right.

High temperatures for Kamloops and the Okanagan this week are in the range of 6 Celsius below normal, although the forecast overnight lows, in the 5 C to 7 C range, are more usual for this time of year.

Kamloops has a normal high for today, May 9, of 21 C, according to the Environment Canada online forecast.

It’s calling for a high of only 15 today and tomorrow, rising a degree or two later in the week. It’s also forecasting showers that will end this morning, but there’s a 60% chance of them coming back later this afternoon.

The rest of the week is mostly a mix of sun and cloud, with Wednesday forecast to be sunny, but not all that warm

The same pattern holds for the Okanagan, only a couple of degrees colder.

The normal highs for the Okanagan are 19 C today but forecast highs are only 13 C today, 14 C Tuesday and 16 C to 17 C for the rest of the week.

As with Kamloops, there’s a 60% chance of showers late this afternoon.

A special weather statement has also been issued for the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt, with light flurries at higher elevation. Bouts of heavier flurries are possible but won’t last long, the statement says.
