Meeples and Milkshakes Board Game Café in Penticton is closing its doors after four years.
Jim and Cheryl Roepcke opened up the café in 2020 and the last day to come in to enjoy a milkshake and a board game will be Jan. 14.
“Things got off to a rough start because of the pandemic. It was only two years after we opened that we could run it how we envisioned it because of the restrictions,” Jim said.
He said they kept the doors open as long as possible because the community enjoyed the space.
“Maybe we should have closed down sooner based on the economics of things but we didn’t want to take it away from the community,” he said. “There are a lot of people that like our place and we like our place. We were hoping things would improve.
“It was always a good feeling seeing someone try something new, or get into a new board game because of our café."
Frequent customers who enjoyed the café can help the Roepcke’s out by coming down one last time before they close.
“If you’ve been in before just come by and say thanks to our staff who worked really hard to make the place work, maybe pick up a milkshake or a cookie," he said. "Grab a board game or a book off the shelf while we still have them. That would be really appreciated."
