B.C.'s police watchdog finds RCMP saved the life of a man in Lake Country

A man in Lake Country who inflicted wounds on himself earlier this month was actually saved, not harmed, by RCMP actions, according to a report by B.C.'s police watchdog.

The report on the incident in Lake Country was released today, June 22, by the Independent Investigations Office of B.C.

The incident happened on June 3 when police responded to a call to do a wellness check on the man. They found him with self-inflicted wounds and tried to talk with the him, where-upon he inflicted another life-threatening wound on himself.

"Emergency Health Services, who had been waiting nearby, quickly moved in to assist and the man was transported to hospital," the report said.

Because medical help was standing by and was quickly called in, the investigation found that police actions saved the man’s life.
